Day 1 of SOFTECAsia 2024 delivered a lineup of powerful keynotes, offering deep insights into the future of software testing. Each speaker brought their own perspective, from automation fundamentals to cybersecurity, providing the audience with a comprehensive look at how the industry is evolving. Here’s a summary of the keynotes from today.

1. Rob Sabourin: Lost Test Automation Fundamentals

Rob Sabourin opened the conference with his keynote Lost Test Automation Fundamentals. He reminded the audience of the value of revisiting the basics of test automation, highlighting historical lessons and the importance of combining problem-solving skills with modern automation tools. His session served as a call to action for testers to focus on skills like system modeling and problem-solving, rather than becoming overly reliant on specific tools​.

2. Tariq King: The Rise of Generative AI – Judgment Day

Tariq King followed with his keynote, The Rise of Generative AI: Judgment Day. King explored the rapid advancements in AI, particularly Generative AI, and how it is transforming the software testing landscape. He challenged attendees to think critically about the future role of AI, emphasizing the ethical considerations and potential pitfalls as AI-generated content becomes more prevalent in software development​.

3. Kevin Harris: The New Test Manager’s Survival Guide

Kevin Harris took the stage with The New Test Manager’s Survival Guide, focusing on the transition testers face when moving into management roles. He discussed the dramatic shift in responsibilities, where the focus changes from testing details to managing people and resources. His talk was packed with practical advice for test managers, particularly how to balance team leadership with the technical aspects of testing .

4. Lalitkumar Bhamare: AI for Better AI – Authentic Intelligence for Better Approximated Intelligence
